Cushman Lumber
Timber and tech: Bringing a legacy lumber company into the modern
The Project
Rooted in tradition, rebuilt for today
Cushman Lumber, a family-owned wholesale distributor of framing lumber and studs, has been a trusted name in the Northeast since 1974. With deep roots in the lumber industry and a reputation built over generations, their story is one of growth, craftsmanship, and resilience. But when it came to their online presence, their aging website told a different story—one that was static, outdated, and no longer reflective of the strength of their brand. Cushman Lumber approached RYCO Design to help them turn the page with a new website that matched their legacy and showcased their expertise in a way that would resonate with today’s digital audience.

The Need
Modern tools for a time-tested trade
Cushman Lumber’s previous website had gone untouched for over a decade, with minimal visual appeal, poor mobile responsiveness, and limited functionality. For a company rooted in quality and service, the old site failed to inspire confidence among new customers and was not built to support evolving business needs. Our goal was to craft a digital experience that was both modern and timeless—one that honored their heritage while embracing the expectations of today’s users.
We began with a full redesign and development of the website on WordPress, focusing on structure, scalability, and performance. To capture the visual essence of the company, we partnered with Ridgelight Studio for a half-day photo shoot and drone videography session at the lumber yard. The resulting visuals now anchor the homepage, giving users a dynamic view of Cushman Lumber’s operations and scenic location along the Vermont and New Hampshire border. The homepage features this immersive drone footage, paired with concise messaging and an updated brand narrative that immediately communicates the company’s identity.

The Journey
Cutting through the noise with clarity and craft
The redesign process focused on clarity, usability, and story. We created a clean and intuitive site structure that allows users to easily learn about the company, explore the products offered, and get in touch. While Cushman Lumber’s operations are old-school in the best way, their website needed to speak to a new generation of buyers, many of whom start their purchasing journey online.
The new site design balances heritage and professionalism with a modern edge. Warm tones and clean lines echo the textures and environment of the lumberyard, while thoughtful typography and simple navigation enhance usability. Key sections highlight Cushman’s company history, products, and regional service areas, giving visitors everything they need to know without overwhelming them. We also implemented SEO best practices and integrated Google Analytics to support ongoing visibility and performance tracking.
The Result
The new standard for a storied supplier
Cushman Lumber’s new website is more than just a facelift—it’s a functional, mobile-responsive, and visually rich platform that supports their continued growth. With custom photography and drone video, the site captures the character of the business while offering an upgraded user experience that meets modern standards. The About and History pages now tell the story of a multigenerational family business, while the homepage draws visitors in with bold visuals and a clear message: Cushman Lumber is still here, still growing, and still the trusted name in framing lumber for the Northeast.
The site has already improved customer engagement and visibility, and the team at Cushman has received enthusiastic feedback from partners and clients alike. With a new website that finally matches the caliber of their work, Cushman Lumber is positioned to thrive for the next generation—and beyond.
